COVID-19 Recovery
WeSERVE Cares | Read More ...
Because of COVID-19, food insecurity is at an all-time high; emotional distress is at an all-time high; and financial instability is at an all-time high along with unemployment. The need for assistance is great and our goal to Serve Families, Meet Needs and Build our Community opened the door for our new initiative "WeSERVE Cares".
WeSERVE Cares program will aid in mitigating the lasting effects of COVID-19 by partnering with businesses and faith based organizations to provide critically needed services, resources to children and families from low socio-economic communities who are deficient in support.
WeSERVE Cares will offer support in the following areas:
- Food Distribution
- Emergency Shelter & Disconnection Prevention*
- Employment Support and Resume Readiness
- Behavioral & Mental Health Wellness
*Contingent upon government funding approval
Calendar dates for distribution and workshops will be posted at www.weserveva.org by June 1, 2023.
Reducing Food Insecurity
Services
Food Distribution
WeSERVE distributes food to individuals and families on the first Saturday of every month, from our Dumfries, Virginia location. The food distribution is a time for WeSERVE to greet and serve the community as well as provide reading sessions and information and referral services to children and families while they wait. Because WeSERVE is literacy focused, we take advantage of our time with the community to inform them of literacy service offered by WeSERVE and ways they can benefit from them and get involved.
Food Pantry
Our food pantry allows us to provide food to individuals in need throughout the month. Individuals may call or email to pick up a limited number of items they need to sustain them for a period of time.
CARES Backpack Buddy Program
WeSERVE partners with local schools to provide meals for students that struggle with food insecurity over the weekend.
